Voice to Notation for iMac G5 OSX

I would like to record vocals into my iMac G5 and have
the software write the notation. Does this program
do this? I write original music and it would be great to have this program do this...

Thanks...

record Left & Right hands simultaneous?????

Is it possible to "record" a new song playing L & R hand at the same time? Everytime I try all the bass cleft notes show up above in the treble cleft bar. I cannot figure out how to tell it that everything left of middle C should go to bass cleft and everything right to treble. This should be basic but I cannot figure it out. Please help!

Music notation

I'm looking for some software that will translate a midi file into a printed notation sheet of music.
Mac OS 9.2

Lime and the PowerMac

QUESTIONS!

I new at this internet thing so I'm having difficulty figuring out what I need to compose music for the GHB.
I have a PowerMac Sys 7.5.5, 32meg RAM. I DO NOT HAVE:
Adobe Acrobat Reader, MIDI Manager, MIDI keyboard, and PostScript Printer.
Question: Can I compose music with the computer keyboard and mouse without buying a sythesizer?
Any comments, suggetions, advise, recommendations and info would be gratly appreciated,
Thank you and Merry Christmas to everyone.

LIME and OMS

I have an Apple iMac computer and use the latest Mac version of LIME to write and listen to scores. I also have QuickTime MIDI Player set up so that I can hear different instruments on the various channels and am quite happy with this. Unfortunately there does not appear to be any way that I can scan music and convert if to a NIFF file with QTMP so that I can import it into LIME and work on it. It seems that if I use OMS 2.3.8 instead of QTMP I will be able to do this in conjuntion with NIFFViewer for Mac.

Unfortunately, after downloading OMS and configuring it as per the instructions I cannot get it to work and play music - When I open PatchBay it remains totally blank with no connwections shown . It would seem that I have not done something which I should have. Would it be possible for some kind person to go through the configuration procedure in simple terms such as:-

1. Do such and such a thing
2. Now do so and so
3. Next you should open XXX and do...
etc.

Thanks in anticipation.

Is there anyone out there who can help me with this problem, please ?

Scanned Sheet Music and LIME

Does anyone know of a program for Apple Mac System which will allow me to scan sheet music and convert it to NIFF files to be imported and worked on in LIME? There is a program called SharpEye advised to me by Dadid Cottle but this is only available as Windows 95/98

Thanks for any help.

Is there anyone out there who can help me with this problem or is it not possible at all to import scanned files and work on them in LIME Mac
version ?

Looking For Something BETTER Than Lime...But Can't Find IT!!!

I do LOVE Lime...it works effortlessly and quickly. I only wish that it had a more professional
looking music font face. So, I went a looking and tried SO many different notation software
that it made both my head and pocketbook spin.

Finale - not easier than Lime...BIG learning curve...strange notation via direct imput. Ever stranger
via Midi. PASS

MidiScan - Desktop sheet music...doesn't do what was on the box no where are reliably as Lime. PASS

Sibelius - now I thought this would be the messiah. Yep, disappointed big time. Learning curve is less
than Finale, however, took me LOADS longer to score a piece than Lime.

There were so many others that I just gave away because I keep coming back to Lime. In fact, I usually
a piece the same day the muse visits me. And I can get it out quickly and reliably with Lime.

IS there any other REAL choice??? Keep up the tremendous work guy. LUV this product.

CJ.

PS. You are probably wondering why I came here? Well, my hard drive failed and Lime was lost, including
my 2 most recent compositions. So, I tried Sibelius before I came this-a-way for my Lime fix. Now my
fingers will be happy composing again.
:o)

Re: Looking For Something BETTER Than Lime...But Can't Find IT!!

Hi,

Lime does support Sonata, but you have to get it elsewhere. Go to the options dialog.

bagpipe grace notes

How do you make grace note beams always horizontal?
Steve

Re: bagpipe grace notes

Use "parameters" under the symbol menu. Find the "Beaming" catagory and locate "multiplier to compute beam slope" and set it to 0.

Re: bagpipe grace notes

could you please email them to me

Blank page in Lime

I want to print my Lime composition 2-up on the laser printer (so that I can fold it in half like a booklet). My printer handles the 2-up conversion just fine, but I can't figure out how to get Lime to make the first page blank--so that the real first page will print on the right hand side of the first physical page.

Thanks,
Reed

Re: Blank page in Lime

This is a kluge, but I would create a page with one measure, single staff. Then I would use the line draw tool, set the thickness to as high as it will go (25?), then use the lines as white tape. I often use this technique for cut out scores.

Midi Import/Export Problems

First let me say: As far as I can tell, "Lime" may just be one of the very best notation editors on the market - PERIOD. I have used them all from Encore to Finale and this one ranks as my favorite (although I cannot afford Sibelius)

I cannot not believe its features and ease of use and preferences. However, it seems to lack one very important set of functions that I NEED in order to fully use LIME in my midi setup (w/sequencer, HD recorder etc . . )

Midi import . . . one voice at a time? Ouch! That seems terribly impractical. I have to know how many measures are already in the file and time signatures + whatever else. I rely heavily on instant midi transcriptions (being that I juggle between apps such as sequencer to notation etc. ) Is there any way to do this more effectively in LIME? Please tell me there is!

And what about midi export? It has all of these incredible features to tag along midi messages . . dynamic recognition and so on - but it only saves as MIDI TYPE 0??? AHH! I need to figure out how to edit the voices and channels individually with my sequencer!!!! Perhaps if I could find a program for WINDOWS which would convert MIDI to "NIFF" for which to import to "LIME" and then back out?? I don't know!

Any assistance - PLEASE LET ME KNOW! So I can decide if purchasing this program is really going to benefit me!!!

Thank you and ALSO thanks for the LIME programmers for giving us such a verstile and powerful program for notation and midi editing.

Playback or Hear Functions inoperable

I just downloaded and installed Lime. It all seemed to
go fine until I tried to get Lime to play back the score.
I hooked up the clocks in the Patchbay setup as
suggested in the manual. I have a Performa 476 with a
68040 processor and Mac OS 8.0. I searched for a
troubleshooting guide and found none. I turned off the
Virus control and the screensaver. I also clicked off the
icon which shows the notes in the uppermost left part of
the lower panel. Am I missing some step here.
Also can Concertware files be imported into Lime?
Thanks for your attention.

Re: Playback or Hear Functions inoperable

Hi,

Are you using MIDI, or just trying to get sound out of the speakers?

YES!!! GO LIME!!!

Just so all of you out there know: LIME is the BEST notation software I ever used. I've been a user for amny years, and there's nothing better!

pickup measures

In pipe music there are no rests. I can get the pickup measure to work and not affect succeeding measures until the last measure. With a single eighth note that is the pickup there is an eight rest in the last measure of the first part of the tune I cannot get rid of ... any suggestions? Thanks. C.

Might as well answer my own question, now that I printed the manual and found "hide rest." The more I use this program the more I'm inclined to buy it. I do wish I could limit the range of keys available on the 'on screen" keyboard. It would speed things up as I only use nine notes.Would like the keyboard a little bigger too. C.

Lime Notation Software

I am christmas shopping for my husband and do
not know exactly what he wants. I know he wants
a midi keyboard to attach to his Macintosh, and
that he plans to use it for composing music.
I know he would like software which would translate
what he plays into musical notation. Is that what this
software does?
Thank you,
NC

Yes, Nancy, that's exactly what it does - and very well too, though keeping time with Lime's internal
metronome takes a little getting used to.

LIME is a (very good) tool for notation and score writing.
It has good facilities for recording and notating the result.
However it is not a midi sequencer. If you are going in for
composing, you will need a sequencer as well I use Logic from emagic.

I would suggest you get a copy of Lime (after all you can
have a free trial and in any case it is not expensive)
and have a play.

Exporting Lime files

I must be able to take lime files into freehand
can lime export/save a file format to freehand.
I don't need to ammend the file, but I do need to be able to see the graphics in freehand.

You can always print to a postscript file from Lime. If you were busing Illustrator the process would be a snap because you can convert the PS into Ill. 3.0 with Transverter Pro and edit it at will. I suspect there must be a conversion for Freehand as well. Can Freehand open an Illustrator 1.1 or 3.0 file? If so then I can help you find the software to use in the conversion. C.

Many thanks for the info above.
I use the demo version of Lime, and saved the score as a Postscript file,
as you mentioned. I then loaded a demo version of Transverter Pro, and tried to convert the PS file.
It reported a commanding error in the process.
It has to be noted that I'm using the trial version of Lime. Is there some
restriction on this version of the Lime package that won't allow any sharing of files. (which is common to demo version of programs).

Also Transverter Pro is a bit expensive for just converting files.
I tried Graphic converter, but it seems to have every filter except a Postscript one.

Any more thoughts much appreciated.

Trial restrictions

I use the demo version of Lime, and saved a score as an eps file for importing in to Macromedia freehand. It won't print and reports an error.

Lime manual

I have spent the better part of the day trying to access
the Lime manual. Downloading and using the program was
easy, but without the manual it is impossible to use
the program. Although I am handicapped by having to use
a macintrash, it does have the minimum requirements
as specified in your site. However, the manual is too big
to be imported into Clarisworks, and I can't even tell how
to put a title on a score without the manual. Help!!!

We have discussed putting the manual in a more compatible format (e.g. pdf), but it isn't yet available. The best I can suggest is to find another machine that has MS Word, or even a Windows machine with MS word, where you can print the manual.

If you would like to write to me directly (lime@uiuc.edu) I might be able to attach a short section of the manual which has the tutorial. that would at least get you started.

Lime: difficulty with configuration

Using System 7.55 on a Power PC, with OMS and AfterDark previously installed, I found it impossible to configure Lime so that it would use Midi. Each time I installed Midi Mgr in the System Folder it would place MidiMgr in the duplicate extensions folder, regardless of where I had placed it in the first place. Turning off the After Dark Screen Saver didn't help either. I kept getting a message saying that Quick Note was not configured for Midi. I have no problem running Music Shop through my Yamaha Synthesizer, so I conclude the problem is with Lime. I am very disappointed. The program looks good, and I was eager to see how well it would work. Moreover, it's within my bduget. Oh well.

Re: Lime: difficulty with configuration

I've never encountered this before. I'm guessing OMS is conflicting with MIDI manager.

Lime will run without MIDI manager, but will not have MIDI capabilities. Apple has pretty much dropped MM development and we soon hope to have MIDI function using QuickTime.

I would try removing all the OMS extensions.

Lime Notation software

I have been using Lime for almost 2 years now- primarily for bagpipe music, but now I am composing
some small ensemble scores for voice and several instruments. I have
become a Lime Evangelist, turning other pipers and non- pipers on to Lime because of its low cost and ease-of use.
Many thanks to David Cottle for his support when I was trying Lime out.

Re: Lime Notation software

I am trying to locate David Cottle. Do you have his contact information or can you have him contact me? My number is 801-756-6090 or 703-625-6694.

How much does Lime cost?

I noticed this version of Lime is only a demo, does any
one know how much the full version costs to buy?

Thanks in advance,
Dennis.

Re: How much does Lime cost?

The registration is $65. It used to sell for just under $300, but we have moved to a registration scheme because that's about what we got from the distributor anyway.

Re: test

On the subject of cost. I think you should go back to your original scheme of a limit of 3 pages until a registration key is recveived.

This would meet your requirements to get LIme on as many machines as possible, but at the same time add an incentive to pay , what is now [-:(] a relatively small amount.

We did have this discussion and some of us argued for stricter limitations. We may go back to that. But mostly the developers are more interested in people using it than making money. We are a small staff and can survive on fewer registrations. (But they do help--so register!)
