if you wanna have full duplex for win98 compatible just go at www.driverzone.com and search for ess tech or go to ess download page. Then Download the windows 95 driver. you will see it's not wmd driver it's normal one. it is compatible with any ver of win9X just update your win 98 driver with this older driver then you will see you will have the full duplex compatible mode. i have quite a few different ESS modem drivers (setups)...email with specs and i'll see if any match...

of course all that i'd found did not seem correct for my modem--which got wiped out 2wks after 1st use of laptop by Windows Update site! bummed! have had laptop 9 weeks and spent 7 of those trying to fix all that windowsupdate screwed up and running the 28.8bps Xjack pcmcia card from my old system. oh man, the web was so much faster at 56k--2weeks...i had two glorious weeks--then back to oh so slow speeds.

i am running xp upgrade (not provided disks by seller of course) overtop of windows 98se OEM on a hp pavilion 3310 notebook--and of course hp says they don't support xp on this model-no help there. i've learned that there are modems and then there are modem/audio combos (which i have) and that there are a couple different versions of ESS modems -- Allegro... Maestro... Maestro3... Canyon... etc... and don't get me started on their number system (i.e. 1639/1999/etc) hard to figure out.

i have the 98se drivers no prob...and if you need others can point you in the direction where you might find them--i've searched high and low! maybe all that work will do one of y'all some good. i also found a program/app that can tell you what's on your system.

it's the Maestro3comm for xp that i needed which i finally found and installed--no thxs to windows support--I got it back with hard work and tenacity...but now my 56k flex internal modem when connected tells me it's connected at 48.0bps--46.6bps--30.2bps--115.6bps, #'s all over the map. check throughput and numbers are way way low --like 26 to 42bps... and property's dialog show Modulation greyed out!?? network adapters were MIA along with modem/sound drivers during update fiasco -- i'm not sure if i've put the system back to rights or not--when update fiasco occurred, i had barely had time to get my feet wet and i was/am totally new to XP (quite up on 98SE tho) so i hadn't a chance to get a good look at the configuations. one thing i do remember is that when i set up the internet connection, it was PPTP not PPP which is what it's showing now.?? so i'm still in the midst of trying to get this thing back together. if any of you have had any experiences or have knowledge regarding these matters, please contact me... if any of you need ESS drivers or info re: ESS contact me and i'd be more than happy to do what i can and/or give you whatever i may have that you need.
