Software Description
DarkWave Studio is a free modular virtual studio for the synthesis of electronic music. It has a built in pattern editor and sequencer. It allows you to load various machines such as virtual instruments and effects and connect them in a modular and straightforward fashion. DarkWave can load VST instruments and effects and it can also load machines using the DarkPlug API, which was custom made for DarkWave.
DarkWave natively supports both x86 (32-bit) and x64 (64-bit) versions of Windows with native binaries compiled for each platform. The x86 and x64 versions can each only load plugins for that platform, i.e. the x64 version only loads 64-bit VST and DarkPlug plugins.
DarkWave supports multiple processors well, with an aggressively multi-threaded audio path that can utilise multiple CPU chips and/or cores. The program is perfectly suited for x86-64 systems with multiple cores such as the "Core 2 Duo" and "Core 2 Quad" processors by Intel and comparable processors by AMD.

Really easy to use
Gosh, I like this program!
The small download didn't take long. A virus scan showed all was clean. Installation was a breeze (I heeded the warnings here and read the install dialogs, and deselected all the extra software).
Then I watched the Youtube tutorial, whilst repeating the actions in the program.
Now, just a few hours later, I have my own composition in the making, multiple tracks of repeating patterns, and it almost sounds like music - hey, I am not a musician or anything, I am gonna churn out a lot of rubbish before I start making gold. But the only thing that stands in the way is my ability. This program is so easy to learn and use that I won't be wasting time while struggling with the software.
If only all software was this easy.

Trojan in Installer
AdAware Antivirus detects a Trojan in the Installer. Trojan.Win32.Generic/BT in file DarkWave-Studio-Web-Setup.exe
Gotta be a real dumb f**k to be using this installer to distribute your software. No wonder they pay you a fee for their distributing their spyware.

It is now April 17, 2013. Does DarkWave still have/install the trojan or any other malware?

We have removed DarkWave Studio from our special features on DAWs and Music Production Software.
We will make sure the developer hears about these concerns.

I have listened to the bad
I have listened to the bad feedback and so now DarkWave Studio no longer has any bundled adware in the installer as of version 4.7.0. neither OpenCandy (SweetLabs) and BetterInstaller (Somoto) are not included any more.
The installer cycles through
The installer cycles through various confusingly worded options, it is too easy to make a mistake that causes damage to browsers, and is a security hazard. Saying that these are 'optional' is not enough. The installer is designed to be confusing.
A company that uses tricks to insinuate it's way onto your computer and is designed to be very, very, very difficult to uninstall cannot be trusted not to add more serious malware/spyware to the computer.
You have made a great error of judgement taking money from these installer suppliers. It reflects very badly on you that you persist with it.
DO NOT DOWNLOAD DARKWAVE UNTIL THE CREATOR USES AN INSTALLER THAT DOES NOT 'INVITE' YOU TO INSTALL TOOLBARS, ETC. IT IS NOT WORTH THE HASSLE AND SECURITY RISK.

DarkWave Studio spyware
Downloaded it, the downloader seems to cycle through various irritating toolbars, took my ages to remove the toolbar crapware.
And then, when I come to run DarkWave Studio, the shortcut says '64-bit' and it won't run on my 32-bit machine!
So the installer installs working crapware but doesn't install the right program!
WTF? This installer is a f*****g lemon. And thanks for the crapware. Not.

Update - I have found a shortcut to both the 32-bit & 64-versions in my 'All-Programs' pop-up menu so I am able to run it.
I recommend the authors abandon the Installer they use and go to it being Shareware or Donationware instead.
At least one of the toolbars the installer comes up with (it seems to cycle through several - Iminent, FileBulldog...) will not allow the software to be downloaded unless you agree to installing the toolbar.
These junk toolbars that also try to hijack your homepage are a plague.
No Sound!
Hey,
everything seems to be working great for Dark Wave, I installed version 4.1.1 and the UI is excellent, running smoothly..
Only problem is, there is no sound! I've tried changing the outputs in the program options, but I can't get any sound out of the thing

I have just tested the
I have just tested the installer, and it does begin with offers to install a toolbar and create new default search settings, but there's no malware that I can see.
If you accept the offers, then the software developer with earn a small fee, but you can skip these offers and just install the main software if that's what you want to do.

I have checked the latest version of DarkWave Studio and the installer does include OpenCandy which recommends other downloads during the installation process.

this F&&khead included OpenCandy malware with his program install, and a dodge version of system mechanic that cant remove the malware
that could be true
I had one issue that it doesn´t run under win7 64bit, and the next day my PC was crashed ( MBR destroyed )
so it was most likely because of this App, I didn´t see it because I thought the software here is tested somehow
So I will ( after 15 years ) boycott this site

Warning About VST Issues
DarkWave seems to have a lot of trouble loading non-native VST plugins. I don't know when they will fix that problem but I hope it will be soon because this is a really good program.
