Software Description
CDex can extract the data directly from an Audio CD, which is generally called an Audio CD Ripper or a CDDA utility. Of course you can do that also by recording through your sound-card.
However, recording by sampling the signal with your sound card implies that the signal is first has to be converted to an analog signal by the CD-ROM, which is fed into the sound-card and digitized by the sound-card.
In practically all situation the quality of the recording will be deteriorated (unless you have a CD-ROM that has a digital output of course). CDex on the other hand, is reading the digital audio data directly from the disc, which can be stored in either a WAV file or a MPEG (MP2 or MP3) sound file.

Yeah it does
You are 100% shit, we have all wasted good time reading your post. its POOR end-user skills.

mp3 faults
love cdex to bits.
Can't fault it in any way
i've noticed it picks up errors when coverting cd to mp3.
wonder can i do the opposite find errors in the mp3?
it's irritating if i record a cd and it contains a jump or several jumps.
cheers

Daniel,
First of all I am not an expert but my cdex installation does work.
Type in your email address no harm will come and submit it, then insert your cd and the remote cddb should list the tracks, if it does'nt try another cddb address.
Good luck, Ian
cddb error
Hi
Here's my problem:
remote cddb don't work. error cddb says : " no connexion has been launched because the target CPU (cddb) refused it expressly".
So what can I do? yesterday it worked and I haven't changed anything...
thanks for your help, bye !
Re: cddb don't work can you help me
I've got CDex set up on 2 different computers and it has never retrieved a CD's information. I've put in my email address, and it just says it can't find my CD. (I only use originals, so I would assume it should)
Winamp finds it just fine.
I think what we are both looking for is an alternative remote server that works, or a patch or something?
CDEX is ok !
I am from Belgium and I use CDEX since half a year.
In my opinion it's one of the best programs in his sort that you can find !

CDex
This is the most user-friendly ripping software I have used. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to quickly, easily, and efficiently rip WAVS to MP3s or pre "burn" arrangements. Of course it does more than what I have mentioned too! Be sure to download the
nt wnaspi32 zipfile for drivers if you are using windows me/nt/2000, it makes for a smoother ride!

CDEX is excellent! By far the best CD ripper I've ever used.
This is one of the few programs I've tried that doesn't corrupt my files. A wealth of options and easy to use. Generates excellent quality MP3s. No complaints here. And please ignore the moronic comments made by computer (and just generally) illiterate people who say 'CDEX' sucks just because they can't get the program to load or they can't figure out how to work it properly.

Dude I used to think CDEX was great till I bumped onto EAC and LAME (used with EAC) ... It beats the shit outta CDEX .. Hell it even rips Cds that are scratched with all sorts of corrections etc... Truely the best software available

I take it you never tried to use it with Windows XP? It's IMPOSSIBLE as is everything else with this piece of CRAP they have the B***S to call an operating system. Leave it to MS to turn a 2GHz
machine into an SX-25 -W- no math-co.
You old timers know EXACTLY what I mean by that! ;-)
Peace,
Mark

Haha. That is so true. And really, I think all of these audio ripping related problems we can directly attribute to one of two things.
1: The XP (Pro or Home) has a seriously flawed ASPI layer, or...
2: Pre-installed software that modifies or surrounds it with it's own special code interferes with it.
To the point, when I brought home my new computer with XP Home pre-installed, it had a "light" version of Easy CD Creator on it which would not make compilation CDs, etc.
So, I decided to try CDex with it. It wouldn't work. Same for EAC, and a host of other programs. The computer would reboot (XP DOES have Blue Screens of death, they just aren't blue, and XP "sorta recovers" from it by rebooting FOR YOU!), or devices connected to the system WERE NOT RECOGNIZED by the OS as being what they truly were.
The single solution that solved all these problems was to install a different ASPI layer. Once that was done, all problems went away, the OS saw my CD burner AS A BURNER, rather than just a CD-ROM reader, and that ends the story. Now, something OTHER than the dummied down version of Easy CD Creator could use the burner AS a burner.
So as far as I can tell, out of the box, XP does not have a real ASPI layer, or has one that is so slight that only Microsoft and a handfull of other companies can figure out how to work with it.
Yes, I tried changing the executable's operatinng environment, etc. etc. It just would NOT work, and I've had easier times editing PIF files to make obscure DOS games work properly with this new OS.
