Software Description
Amadeus II is a very powerful sound editor for Macintosh. It runs on MacOS 9.2 and up, as well as natively on MacOS X. The most recent version of Amadeus II is 3.8.7. Besides all the functions you would expect from a high-quality sound editor, Amadeus II has four main features that distinguish it from other similar products.
Features
- Support of the Mp3 and Ogg Vorbis codecs that allow you to achieve very low file sizes, while preserving most of the original quality of your sounds.
- Support for the Mp4 and .m4a formats (MacOS 10.4 or later required).
- Support of VST Audio plugins. This plugin format allows you access to many professional sound effects from within Amadeus II. Several free plugins are included with this distribution. The effects of VST plugins can be previewed in real-time and an arbitrary number of settings can be saved for each plugin.
- Sound repairing functions. Amadeus II allows you to easily remove background noise and/or little cracks from a recording, making it the ideal tool for restoring old LP's.
- Analyzing functions. It is very easy to create sonograms or to make a detailed spectral analysis of a signal using Amadeus II.
- Localization in french, german, italian and japanese.
- Audio Units support under MacOS X 10.2 and later.
- Support for 16 and 24Bit sounds and arbitrary sampling rates.
- Multiple undoing.
- Fast forward / rewind.
- CoreAudio support under MacOS X.
- Extensive support of markers.
- Fadings, transitions, normalization.
- Very fast filtering (using G4 velocity engine).
- Support for the formats AIFF/AIFC/FLAC/Wave/Mp3/Mp4/m4a/AAC/CAF/Ogg Vorbis/QuickTime/AVI/SoundDesigner II/u-law.
- Full support for AAC encoding (MacOS 10.4 required).
- Raw sound data import/export.
- Possibility to split files and to join several files together.
- Real-time spectral analysis and oscilloscope.
- Multiple scraps.
- Several sound generators

Amadeus and Panther
Is Amadeus compatible with Panther?
Thanks,

Yes. I used it a couple of times with 10.3.7. Still a bit unsure, as an alternative for Sound Studio. Some problems I have could emanate from just having installed Soft PC with Windows 2000 (to run an unrelated application).

Timer function
This is not so much about this specific software, but I am looking for something that suits my specific needs: I record a lot of FM music programs (as AIFF) from my tuner to my hard drive. But I have to be there to turn it on and off. Is there something out there that acts like a timer on a VCR that will turn the program on and off at specific times? Provided, of course, I leave the tuner and computer on. I currently use a hi-fi VCR to do this.

changing speed of mp3's
Hai
do you know of software that can slow down or speed up mp3's (or wav-files). Important: i want the pitch to change accordingly when i speed up or slow down the track (just like with an old-fashioned tape-recorder).
I want to use this software for 'repairing' digital files that were recorded directly from tape-recorders.
There is abundant software that can change either the tempo or the pitch of a digital file, but i have not encountered a product which can do that simultanously.

Re: changing speed of mp3's
I routinely use Ntrack Studio for this. When a wave file has say 44100 bps, I set the working speed to 40000 bps, that's all it needs. (well it asks politely to convert the wav file(s) to the new sampling rate, and I answer No.) In my opinion it does this without loss of quality, whereas the pitch-changers loose quality. However it does not change dynamically what would be useful it the tape wasn't at constant speed.
vinyl to iMac connection
how do i connect my analogue amp to my G4 iMac - cant even work out what lead i need and where it plugs in!
Re: vinyl to iMac connection
Use the "tape record out" from the amp, use a cable that has RCA plugs on one end and a single stereo mini-type on the other, and put it into the mic input. Or you can get an external sound card that has RCA inputs and an USB ouput that you run into an USP port. I have done both and there appears to be little difference in sound quality.

I have a new Powerbook (15", OSX, 10.2.8) and I am interested in converting LP's to MP3. Is additional software required? Also, should the input come from the output of the turntable itself or the stereo receiver into which it is currently connected?
Thanks

I'm wondering what to do with an iMac that doesn't have a microphone input. What options do I have?
Thanks,

Mixes Wave Files Perfectly
Excellent sound recording and editing. Zooms in tightly for cue setting. Mixes files like you were at the tables yourself. I have yet to see how large of a file I can make, and whether or not I can get a mix cd out of it. But otherwise I am impressed. I spent 2 1/2 hours searching for a quality sound editing and mixing program and my search is complete!

tapes to cd
Can I use amadeus to get a casette tape to cd. Also the tapes that I have are 90 min tapes. Will the file be outrageous or will it compress to cd format as it comes in? If someone could email me that would be great. stephanieallynpohl@mac.com

batch converting to mp3's
Is there a way in this software to copy an entire cd to the mac desktop w/o playing each cut in real time?

You want a "ripper" not an audio recorder. Apple's iTunes will do what you want.
Mac OS X v2.1
I'm interested in purchasing Amadeus II but would like to ascertain that it is fully compatible with Mac 10.2.1 which I have on my Mac G4.
Taking of the vocals
Is there a software i can use to withdraw the vocal of a song off my hardrive without distorting or confusing the other traks?

burning from vinyl
hi, can i input a signal from my record deck / amp, into my g4 mac powerbook via an imic to record cd's from my vinyl collection?? if so can you suggest the best way.
thanks
ian
Re: burning from vinyl
You should be able to rig something up. Basically you have to get the analog signal into your Mac, than record it, edit it and burn it. You can do this cheaply with Spark ME (free at: http://www.tcworks.de/home/content/en/PRODUCTS/Application/SparkME_X/render_top ) and Toast light. It's not professional quality, but it'll do the job. You could also try Sound Studio 2.0.2 (felttip.com), or even Coaster 1.1.3 (not an editor though). Be sure you have the disc space to work with files that large though.
Amadeus II - multitrack?
I love this software. Easy. Fast.
I wish that the multi-tracking was there.
I've just been opening multiple AIFFs in Amadeus to do it.
But you can't play them simultaneously very easily.
So I've just been inserting silence for about five seconds at the start of one AIFF.
I begin playing the one with the silence first and when five seconds are up I start the
other. It's sort of tricky. It would be nice if there was something that allowed you to
play multiple AIFFs in sync. If someone else has an easier method please drop me a
note.
