iDrum Magazine - Will it drum up enough interest to last?
iDrum Magazine - Will it drum up enough interest to last?
There is a new digital magazine out for drummers by the name of iDrum.
I have read quite a bit of the first edition, and the quality of the content, the lessons, tips, advice, and interviews are quite good.
The use of embedded video and links to additional resources is also a nice feature. The subtle, and sometimes not so subtle, use of animation in both editorial content and advertisements is cute.
And the special Neil Peart competition on pages 32 - 33 where you can win $15,000 worth of gear including the DW Snare Collection, Sabian Cymbals, and ProMark sticks is well worth the cover price - well it's free, but it would be worth it even if you had to pay.
However, I wonder it it's a solution to the wrong problem, because the entire magazine is done in Flash.
When it comes to reading on the web, normal web pages work just fine, but Flash can get a bit clumsy.
A magazine like this is just the sort of thing a lot of people would enjoy reading on their iPad - but because it's in flash you can't read it on iPad.
My guess is that the format will need to change for it to really take off - but it's been a while since their was something new for drummers, so good luck to iDrum.
You can read it for free at magazine.idrummag.com.
