Focusrite introduces the new Saffire Pro 26 FireWire/Thunderbolt audio interface, featuring 18 inputs and 8 outputs.

This Thunderbolt and FireWire compatible unit is the latest addition to the company's Saffire Pro line of audio interfaces.

Focusrite designed the Saffire Pro 26 for studio and live recording use. Utilizing their four decades worth of experience, they equipped the unit with 18-in, 8-out, 24-bit/96kHz resolution and four Focusrite mic preamps.

With its comprehensive set of analog and digital I/O options, you can easily expand your recording and live setups. The front panel has 2 instrument inputs, while the back panel houses the rest of the inputs. This includes 4 XLR/TRS line inputs with 48V phantom power, 2 TRS line inputs and 8 channels of ADAT digital input for connecting with other multi-channel preamps. There are also 2 channels of digital S/PDIF inputs available for compatibility with other outboard equipment. Output options include six rear panel TRS line-level outputs and two channels of digital S/PDIF outputs.

Being part of the Saffire Pro series, this unit will connect seamlessly to a Thunderbolt port via a FireWire to Thunderbolt adapter (not included) or directly to a FireWire 800 port with the cable provided. The official press release adds that, "this dual-protocol compatibility (FireWire and Thunderbolt) means it will work seamlessly for years to come with the next generation of computers."

At the core of this unit are four Focusrite preamps, well known for their impressive sonic transparency. This is then paired with a Precision A-D / D-A conversion with JetPLL jitter reduction technology. The front panel also features six LED meters that will let you accurately monitor the input levels when recording.

Convenience and portability also factored in when Focusrite designed the Saffire Pro 26. It comes in a sleek and sturdy metal chassis that will conveniently fit on a regular bag and sit on a table.

Accompanying the hardware is the Saffire Mix Control software that runs on Mac or Windows. The official description says, "The ultra-low-latency 26x8 DSP mixer/router features flexible output routing and monitoring for custom monitor mixes, as well as intuitive one-click presets to help you set up your session as quickly as possible, whether you're tracking, mixing or monitoring."

Finally, Saffire Pro 26 is bundled with a set of useful music production software including Ableton Live Lite, Novation BassStation virtual synthesizer, Focusrite's Midnight and Scarlett plug-in suites and 1GB worth of Loompasters sample content.
