These are follow up releases to the new kit that was released last September, providing more compact and affordable alternatives. The DM7X Session Kit is the five-piece version of the DM7x, retaining many identical capabilities, while having a smaller space-saving profile. The DM Lite Kit is the entry level version, it is lightweight and even more compact, designed for beginners.

Nate Lane, Product Manager at Alesis, said: "We believe even our most affordable electronic drum kits should still be feature-packed and sound great. Our approach is to always aggressively refine the capabilities of our kits and offer the best combinations of components. That's the main reason the DM7X Kit has become a success so quickly—the unique combination of in-demand capabilities, plus it's so easy to use."

Although a bit stripped down, the DM7X Session Kit comes with all essential kits. It has five drum pads that include a compact bass trigger and dual-zone snare. Three cymbal pads are also provided, including a nifty crash with choke. The included two-post rack allows you to setup the kit without taking too much space, while the Alesis X Kick pedal wraps up the hardware package.

This electronic drum kit comes with a wealth of sounds, it allows you to play with 385 drum and cymbal samples, more than enough to get you through a typical recording or gig. Other extra features include a metronome, a sequencer, a recorder and other practice friendly tools.

The entry level model DM Lite Kit comes already wired and assembled, which means you can play with it right out of the box. It has a compact rack with adjustable height for setting up the kit to your convenience. The rack supports the kit's seven backlit pads - four drum pads and three cymbals.

The built-in drum coach software is designed to help beginners learn faster by providing visual feedback, the pads flash in response to the onboard patterns and drum lessons, providing visual queues as you practice. Other features include a variable hi-hat pedal and a velocity sensitive kick pedal that comes with an internal piezo for capturing the dynamics of your playing.

Lane summarizes: "On top of its learning features and illuminated pads, the DM Lite Kit offers a great opportunity for drummers who want simple USB MIDI connectivity. It's a very affordable way to equip yourself with dynamic MIDI-triggering capability for a DAW or Virtual Instrument."

The DM7X Session Kit is currently retailing for $499, while the DM Lite Kit are now also available in stores for $299. You can visit Alesis for more information.
