Rock producer Romesh Dodangoda upgrades to SSL Alpha-Link Converters
“Everything I record goes through Alpha-Link… the sound of those converters is just brilliant.”
Romesh Dodangoda
Solid State Logic (SSL), is pleased to announce that producer Romesh Dodangoda recently upgraded to Solid State Logic Alpha-Link Audio Converters. The Cardiff-based producer already counts the likes of Motörhead, Lost Prophets, Funeral For A Friend and Kids In Glass Houses amongst his long and distinguished client list, and with the addition of the new converters Romesh is confident that his forthcoming productions will be achieving an even better sound.
“Everything I record goes through Alpha-Link. I’d heard about people ditching their interfaces and replacing them with Alpha-Link, so I asked SSL to send me one and it was exactly what I needed. The sound of those converters is just brilliant. There’s nothing out there that does 24 channels of I/O in such a small box, so when I travel to different studios taking my rig is so much easier. And with that sound quality… well, it was a no-brainer for me.”

“And then the Duende plug-ins I use on all sorts of things. The EQs are fantastic, they really suit a lot of instruments. I tend to like the EQ on guitars. You can really shape the tone and push certain frequencies without it sounding too harsh. I sometimes use Duende’s Stereo Bus Compressor on busses that I want to give a bit more of that classic SSL ‘punch’. And I have to say it’s pretty good at that! Drumstrip is a great plug-in, too, I find it’s really handy when you just need to shape the transients a little bit to suit the mix.”
“I recently did a big project with a film company called Sitcom Soldiers [http://sitcomsoldiers.com] where we recorded ten bands live in a studio in just two days. It was such a massive challenge; every band had a different backline so we were constantly changing the set up. On that session I used two Alpha-Links to capture everything and every band was tracked on a G Series console.”
“The reason why so many people use SSL is because the products always sound great. And the gear I have doesn’t change the way I do things – what it does is make things easier and sound better. The SSL equipment I have has integrated into my setup perfectly, so I haven’t needed to alter anything… it just works exactly how I want it to.”
